Harcourts Production

Harcourts produces nearly all of its products from its plant, adjacent to the showroom. We believe this set up allows us complete control over quality & delivery.

Our staff believes that working for Harcourts is the most esteemed position available in the garment industry. They are aware of the people who will wear the results of their work and take the initiative to make certain that the end users are not disappointed. The staff at Harcourts has been with us for many years. In a small industry that requires crafts people, the most significant challenge is to train new people to replace retiring craftsmen. We are very pleased with our staff both in teaching their skills to the newer employees and the ability and enthusiasm of our newer employees to learn the skills. Our staff is diverse in every way including age, culture, education and life experience. The diversity lends itself to innovation and product improvement.

With respect to the workmanship of our products, we attempt to combine the best of the age-old methods with modern technology. For example, the modern sewing machinery produces a stronger, straighter stitch. However, hand sewing is more attractive and delicate to the final product. Thus, we use machine sewing for areas that are under stress and hand sewing where it will add to the appearance of our product. Traditionally, ceremonial robes have had large flowing sleeves that contribute to their appearance. Although we have researched other methods, our gowns are hand shirred which is the only way to produce the traditional styling. The hand shirring process requires more time and fabric than machined methods. This technique was brought to Canada by Harcourts and remains unique to the Harcourts robes.
